At Equal Roots, roasted to order means we schedule your coffee for roasting because you ordered it rather than pulling a bag from a large warehouse of previously roasted inventory.
What is third-wave specialty coffee?
Third-wave coffee treats coffee as a craft agricultural product whose origin, variety, processing, roast, and brewing method all matter. Specialty coffee emphasizes quality, traceability, and careful preparation from farm to cup.
What does farmer-owned coffee mean at Equal Roots?
Equal Roots is owned in part by a member of a coffee-farming family with more than 200 years of coffee heritage in Honduras. That farm perspective influences how we source, preserve, roast, and represent the coffees we sell.
Why does Equal Roots focus on single-origin coffee?
Single-origin coffee keeps the identity of a place intact. It allows you to taste the influence of region, altitude, processing, harvest, and farming decisions instead of blending those distinctions away.
How does Equal Roots protect coffee before roasting?
We source with seasonality in mind and use oxygen-conscious green-coffee storage practices, including airtight and inert-gas strategies where appropriate, to reduce unnecessary exposure and help protect quality before roasting.
What is micro-batch roasting?
Micro-batch roasting means roasting relatively small quantities at a time so the roast profile can be closely controlled for the specific coffee rather than treating every origin the same.
Can I subscribe to Equal Roots coffee?
Yes. Full-size coffees can be ordered on a subscription so fresh coffee is placed into the roasting schedule on a recurring basis.
Can I try a coffee before subscribing?
Yes. Equal Roots offers 100g sample bags for several origins so you can taste a coffee before choosing a full-size bag or subscription.
Do you ship nationwide?
Yes. Equal Roots ships coffee across the United States.
Do you sell whole bean and ground coffee?
Yes. Many coffees are available whole bean or ground, with roast options varying by origin.
Is all Equal Roots coffee organic?
No. Organic status is stated on the specific product when applicable. We do not describe a coffee as organic unless that product is represented as organic.
